Book Review: 'Tomb Raider: The Art Of Survival' Art Book

The complete visual celebration of Lara Croft's world, all taken from the brand new Tomb Raider game

'Tomb Raider: The Art Of Survival' brings the world of Tomb Raider to life through its art and graphic design. This stunning art book follows the journey of the brand new Tomb Raider game from page to screen.

Right off, I'll say that I loved the game that this art book is the companion of. A proper reboot that needed to happen, that charts the origin of who Lara Croft became in those earlier games. But this a review of the art book and not about the game.

This art book is simply gorgeous, and quite large (11.7" x 8.6") too but unlike most of the other gaming / movie art books I have in my collection, Tomb Raider is in paperback format, but don't let that put you off thinking it's been cheaply put together. The 272 pages are full of beautiful conceptual art on the characters, enemies, environments and weapons in the game and all printed on high quality heavy art stock paper.

Most of the book is taken up with the beautiful art of the forests, villages, buildings and the monasteries with a description of the set up of the scene in the game plus comments from behind the scenes about how they went about putting it together.

The level of detail in this book is pretty in depth and coupled with the superb artwork, all gives you a sense of what it must be like on the mysterious island that Lara and her companions are shipwrecked upon in the game.

If you enjoyed the game, like I did, I can definitely recommend this art book if you want to revisit Lara Croft's adventures on the Japanese Island.
