Movie Review: Snow White And The Huntsman

In a twist to the fairy tale, the Huntsman ordered to take Snow White into the woods to be killed winds up becoming her protector and mentor in a quest to vanquish the Evil Queen.

Combining my love of fairy tales and fantasy films, I enjoyed Snow White And The Huntsman.

Director Rupert Sanders feature film debut, is visually stunning. Lots of dark imagery and cinematography you might expect from a director with a background in commercials (which hasn't done Ridley Scott any harm to be honest!). I liked the dwarves when they turned up and the deliciously evil Charlize Theron. Kristen Stewart was ok as Snow White too, purest of heart yes, but maybe not so much the fairest of them all, she did come across as bland in the beginning but got better as the film progressed.

I really liked the soundtrack score from James Newton Howard as well, it fit the film pretty well, and worth getting.

However the film did seem like a blend of The Lord Of The Rings, Pan's Labyrinth and Princess Mononoke (even right down to the Spirit Of The Forest stag from Mononoke). No bad thing to be honest, but if you've seen those films, as soon as you watch Snow White you'll instantly recognise them.

Overall, if you like your fantasy films then you'll get a kick out of watching this, I know I did.
