Heritage Auctions presents 'The Glynn and Suzanne Crain Science Fiction Collection', a collection of 461 lots from the finest and most extensive group of mid-century American science fiction art.

The sale includes classic artwork from the vintage pulp genre by legendary artists in the field of science fiction and fantasy, many of which are very rare or even unique, as well as rare first-edition books, comics, pulp magazines and movie posters.

The auction will commence from Tuesday August 13 12pm CT through Wednesday August 14 2019 from the Heritage Auctions - Design District Showroom, 1518 Slocum Street, Dallas, TX 75207 and on the Heritage Auctions website.

#CoolArt: Metropolis Gallery presents 'Greg Hildebrandt: A Retrospective' Art Exhibition

Metropolis Gallery presents 'Greg Hildebrandt: A Retrospective' on Friday October 7.

This is the first retrospective for Hildebrandt, who with his late brother, Tim, is among the most revered fantasy and science fiction artists of the last fifty years.

Not only will the show include some of their coveted Tolkien paintings that have never been shown before but will showcase upwards of 50 paintings for viewing and sale, some never before available, including works from his 'American Beauties' pin-up series and 'The Dark Side' series, which explores the darker nature of comic book heroes and villains, as well as 'Captain America v Hitler', created this year in honour of Captain America’s 75th anniversary.

Opening reception is on Friday October 7 from 6-10pm EST at Metropolis Gallery, 36 W 37th Street, FL 6 New York, NY 10018 (only a 10-minute walk from New York Comic Con) and Greg will also be in attendance. The exhibition will be on view until December 30.

Cool Art: Original 1977 'Star Wars' Poster by Greg & Tim Hildebrandt

The Spiderweb Art Gallery is selling the original vintage 1977 first printing of the Star Wars movie poster by Greg & Tim Hildebrandt.

Each poster is 20" x 28"and hand numbered, in a limited edition of 270. Each poster has a remarque (a hand drawn sketch of Darth Vader) by Greg Hildebrandt, and costs $300.

These posters were recently discovered in their original printer’s boxes that were being stored in Pennsylvania since 1977.

Book Review: Star Wars Art: Illustration

It might come to no surprise, and especially to those that visit this blog, that I love art, and especially art and illustration from geek pop culture. It doesn't really get more geek pop culture than with Star Wars, and so I had to splash for the new Star Wars Art book 'Illustration'.

I've not read the previous two books in the Star Wars Art series, Comics and Vision (both now on order), but I have seen some of the artwork that features in this new book across my travels around the internet, and in fact have featured some on this blog. It is nice to have them in a nicely illustrated book though, and it satisfies my hardcover art book fetish!!!

Each of the 170+ pages is filled with simply awesome artwork, some of it previously unpublished and rarely seen from the artists featured. Artists like Ralph McQuarrie (to whom the book is dedicated to), Drew Struzan, Dave Dorman, Hugh Fleming, Tim and Greg Hildebrandt, Tsuneo Sanda, Jerry Vanderstelt, Christian Waggoner and many more. 

So if you're a Star Wars fan and love art and illustration, I would highly recommend getting this book.
