The MCU take of the Norse Mythology (kind of) with perhaps a hint of a 'Seven Samurai' / 'Magnificent Seven' vibe (gathering a team and all that) and given a 'Guardians Of The Galaxy' style remix. And what you get is a really fun and enjoyable popcorn flick that is entertaining from start to finish!
It's definitely one of the more funnier Marvel movies, as it definitely doesn't take itself too seriously. The banter between Thor and Hulk / Bruce Banner was pretty funny. Although it may have been better not to have revealed the Hulk in the trailers, as we already know beforehand he's the champion before it's alluded to in the run up to Thor first meeting him in the gladiatorial arena, I thought that the impact of his arrival is lessened a bit because of. But talking of funny, Korg, voiced by director Taika Waititi, steals the scenes in which he's in, watch out for him!
The cast is pretty good, and I enjoyed Tessa Thompson's Valkyrie and Jeff Goldblum's Grandmaster, as well as the aforementioned Korg, and we get some cameos too. And as much as I also enjoyed Cate Blanchett's Hella, the villain still comes across as the scheming, monologuing big bad trope, but with kick ass moves though I might add.
The soundtrack by Mark Mothersbaugh really has that 80s synth groove to it in places and definitely wouldn't feel out of place from GOTG, which this film, out of all the other MCU movies, feels the closest too.
Overall, 'Thor Ragnarok' comes across more Sci-Fi than typically Supers, and fits very well into the Cosmic MCU. Definitely recommended if you like that kind of thing.
