'Canned Laughter' is a short film that tells the story of Deirdre Gossamer, a retired comedian who has knitted herself an audience in lieu of performing to a real one.
But when one of her home-made punters comes to life and destroys her career memorabilia, she’s forced to re-think her attachment to the ‘glory days’ and face the once unthinkable prospect of moving on...
Written and directed by Chris Brake, an award-winning writer / director and a graduate of the London Film School, 'Canned Laughter', features the puppetry skills of award-winning London-based puppet artist, Oliver James Hymans, and follows in the footsteps of other 'faded star' films that explore the trappings of fame and its toxic allure for those who have lost it. Films like 'Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?' and 'Sunset Boulevard' that have characters in a state of arrested development at their heart.
