I was down in London for the
MCM x EGX Con
at Excel London, Friday October 25 & Saturday October 26 2024 and really
enjoyed nerding out over the couple of days.
The Con seems to less focused on movie and TV guests and more on anime, gaming
and books nowadays, which to be honest is fine for me, as the focus on gaming
and books definitely ticks off my geek boxes!
It was great to meet the authors of some of my favourite books;
John Gwynne,
Tasha Suri and
Sarah Underwood
(Tasha and Sarah even remembered me from previous Con book signings!), as well
as getting meet
Emily Rose (Elena
Fisher from the 'Uncharted' video games) one of stars from one my favourite
video game series.
I was impressed with some of the games they had in the
EGX Rezzed
zone of the Con. Nothing really AAA, except for the 'Star Wars Outlaws' stand (although would've been cool to see something about the new 'Dragon Age' game though) but more focused on Indie games which is good to see, with a wide variety of games in many different genres and play
styles, and there were a few that impressed me enough to Wishlist on Steam. The D&D stand was cool, if a bit bare, although was only really selling the new handbooks and sign ups to D&D Beyond, but definitely quite a big presence for TTRPG and TCG elsewhere though. I did like the statues at the
PureArts stand, so insanely cool (I nearly always take a ton of photos of that kind of stuff)! And there were even some panels giving advice if you wanted to get into the Gaming industry as well.
And talking of panels, for me, the Q&A guest panels are some of the
highlights of going to a Con these days, so sitting in on some of the panels
they had on over the weekend were great too. I enjoyed the two 'Celebrating 50
Years of Orbit Publishing' fantasy and Sci-fi panels, as well as the
'Uncharted Reunion' panel with a Q&A with the three main stars; Nolan
North, Richard McGonagle and Emily Rose.
But the main highlight for me was the '
Natural Six' live D&D playthrough on the Friday. I'm a big fan of their show on
YouTube and
was the main reason for me going on the Friday, as I only ever usually just do
the Saturday. The playthrough was fantastic, they certainly brought their
chaotic energy to the Centre Stage, and had me in stitches! And rounding off a
superb couple of days at the Con, I also got to meet and chat with the Natural Six team at
the Meet & Greet at the end of Saturday. Couldn't have met a more lovelier
bunch of people, and the free signed Natural Six print was the cherry on top
of the very delicious cake for me!
The last Geek Con of the year for me, but what an enjoyable couple of days!
