Fan Art: An Explosion of Creativity

The fan art community is one of the most creative and active online. Taking pop culture stories and icons as its starting point, the fan community extends those characters into new adventures, unexpected relationships, bizarre remixes, and even as the source material for beautiful art. Limited only by the imagination of the artist, the fan art world is full of surprises and brilliance.

New International Trailer For Looper

Ooh, well would you look at that! A film that's not a remake, reimagining or reboot!! Shock horror! lolz. This could be interesting and one to keep an eye on!

The blurb:
In Looper, time travel will be invented - but it will be illegal and only available on the black market. When the mob wants to get rid of someone, they will send their target 30 years into the past, where a "looper" - a hired gun, like Joe (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) - is waiting to mop up. Joe is getting rich and life is good... until the day the mob decides to "close the loop," sending back Joe's future self (Bruce Willis) for assassination.

Looper is out in cinemas September 28 2012.

New Theatrical Trailer For Total Recall Remake

I'm liking the look of this.

You obviously didn't see much with the original teaser trailer, but from this full-length theatrical trailer, it looks to be a blend of the original short story by Philip K Dick and the 1990 Schwarzenegger movie - and yes, it seems you do get to see the woman with the three boobs!

The blurb:
Total Recall is an action thriller about reality and memory, inspired anew by the famous short story “We Can Remember It For You Wholesale” by Philip K. Dick. Welcome to Rekall, the company that can turn your dreams into real memories. For a factory worker named Douglas Quaid (Colin Farrell), even though he’s got a beautiful wife (Kate Beckinsale) who he loves, the mind-trip sounds like the perfect vacation from his frustrating life – real memories of life as a super-spy might be just what he needs. But when the procedure goes horribly wrong, Quaid becomes a hunted man. Finding himself on the run from the police – controlled by Chancellor Cohaagen (Bryan Cranston), the leader of the free world – Quaid teams up with a rebel fighter (Jessica Biel) to find the head of the underground resistance (Bill Nighy) and stop Cohaagen. The line between fantasy and reality gets blurred and the fate of his world hangs in the balance as Quaid discovers his true identity, his true love, and his true fate.

New Trailer For Black Dynamite Animated Series

I loved the original Black Dynamite film, a pastiche of the 70's blaxploitation films and didn't take itself too seriously. And now the animated series is coming to Adult Swim on July 15th. Hope it hops across the across the Atlantic and joins the likes of The Venture Bros on Adult Swim on TCM2 over here in the UK.

Alternate Intro To Star Trek Original Series

I love this alternate intro to Star Trek by The Quintek Group.

As they say:
This animation is an homage to one of the most groundbreaking sci-fi television shows ever to beam down to Earth. Our goal was to try and capture the essence of what we found most enjoyable from the series for building this faux opening to this classic show.

New Trailer For (Judge) Dredd Lands

Here's the new trailer for the new Judge Dredd movie, Dredd. Kind of reminds me a bit of Mad Max / The Dark Knight, which is all good in my book!

DREDD takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Karl Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary. The endlessly inventive mind of writer Alex Garland and the frenetic vision of director Peter Travis bring DREDD to life as a futuristic neo-noir action film that returns the celebrated character to the dark, visceral incarnation from John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s revered comic strip.

Total Recall: 1990 vs 2012

Here's virtually a shot-for-shot remake of Total Recall by Youtuber CinestirTV, using footage from the 1990 Schwarzenegger version, side by side with the 2012 Colin Farrell version.

Although both are based on the original short story by Philip K Dick, they are very similar indeed, although as in the short story, the main difference is that the 2012 flavour isn't set on Mars!

The first teaser trailer for the prequel to Pixar's Monsters Inc, Monsters University has dropped online.

Mike Wazowski and James P Sullivan are an inseparable pair, but that wasn't always the case. From the moment these two mismatched monsters met they couldn't stand each other. "Monsters University" unlocks the door to how Mike and Sulley overcame their differences and became the best of friends.

"Monsters University" is directed by Dan Scanlon ("Cars," "Mater and the Ghostlight," "Tracy") and produced by Kori Rae ("Up," "The Incredibles," "Monsters, Inc.").

The film opens on June 21 2013 in the US and July 12 2013 in the UK.

Graphic Novel Review: Perseus - Destiny's Call

"In the time of myth and legends…

Perseus always believed he was destined to live the life of a simple fisherman. He never believed he was special. But when charged with an impossible task, he must gird himself with courage, audacity and believe in himself to achieve the unachievable. With the life of his mother and family on the line, Perseus the Avenger must answer the call of destiny…

This is a story of heroism, honour, family, and embracing one’s true calling, during the golden age of mythology. "

This was the first graphic novel from Campfire that I've read, and I thought I'd go with the classic tale of Perseus, which people may know as the basis for the film Clash Of The Titans.

I was initially a bit hesitant due in part to the books using artists based in India, where Campfire is also based, as I've not seen their artwork before - bad quality artwork can kill a good graphic novel for me irrespective of how good the story is - but I needn't have worried. The illustrations are as good as anything I've read before, and the story a pleasure to read as well.

The story, which is bookended in the book as a tale read to Hyratheus by Lady Demiarties, charts the legend of Perseus and his destiny. From the origins of his birth, to the quest for Medusa and his destiny to be king.

If you like graphic novels and tales of ancient mythology then I would recommend that you give this a read.
