#CoolArt: Alexi Era Gallery presents 'Empathic: A Mental Health Awareness Exhibition'

Alexi Era Gallery, in partnership with The You Rock Foundation, presents 'Empathic: A Mental Health Awareness Exhibition'.

One in Four people have or will struggle from a diagnosable mental health struggle in their lifetime. There is an intense need for awareness of this difficult subject matter as an insight into the atypical release artists face as they express some of their deepest motivations, feelings and their own personal contact with the subject matter portrayed through their work. Each artist has worked with the concept a mental health disorder of choice based on personal experience or outside influences that have impacted their lives.

Art is an invaluable, an incredible resource to educate people on mental health crisis we face worldwide and the stigmas unfortunately still attached to them. This exhibition hopes to bring hope, understanding and awareness to a very important topic.
Curatorial Statement: "Alexi Era Gallery feels passionate about supporting creative arts, but we are just as passionate about supporting causes dear to our hearts. Over the years we have found a direct correlation between Mental Health Advertises and improvement associated with the creative arts. Fact: Art/Creativity is Healing and Supportive. As a curator, the first show I ever curated “Darkest Dreams, A Lighted Way” in 2008 married the idea that creativity could greatly benefit those struggling with Mental Health Adversities. Also, I have taken part of the Mental Health Outreach Program at Washing University School of Medicine for 5 years in a row. One of my dreams as a gallerist, curator and artist is that we can build a more solid support system for those struggling with Mental Health Adversities and for such adversities to cease being taboo. Each of us reading this has been directly affected by Mental Heath Adversities personally or by association. 1 in 4 people struggle with a diagnosable Mental Health Adversity. If looking at that by USA statistics: 61.5 million Americans suffer." – Aunia Kahn
The exhibition is at Alexi Era Gallery, 47 West Main Street, Mascoutah, IL 62258, and will be on view until March 26.
