I really enjoyed this. Another in the long line of entertaining animated films from Disney, and doing for video games what Toy Story did for toys.
'Wreck-It-Ralph' is a story of a villain trying to find acceptance and his self worth, and it's a story that's sprinkled with wit, heart and imagination and it's a winner! The cast (John C Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer, Jane Lynch, Alan Tudyk and more) play their parts really well. And as you would expect from Disney, the animation is top notch too. I like the way the retro games/characters mirror the classic 8-bit style of movement too!
Other than the 'Wreck-It-Ralph' game, the main games pastiched in the movie are the Halo/Call Of Duty-alike shooter 'Heroes Duty' and the Mario Kart clone 'Sugar Rush', so if you enjoy those games you'll love those sequences. And if you grew up in the 80's and 90's then you'll get a kick out of spotting the video game characters, sound effects and references you'll see and hear throughout the film.
If you want to see a quality family film and you love your video games too, then I would definitely recommend 'Wreck-It-Ralph'.
**** out of 5
The film is preceded by the wonderful Disney short 'Paperman' too. One complaint though, why the hell did we in the UK have to wait until February until the film was released. 'Wreck-It-Ralph' was released in November in the US and is out on bluray over there in March!!! Bad move Disney!
