Now don't get too excited, Neil Gaiman has posted a link via his Twitter feed to these illustrations by Jill Thompson that were for a movie pitch which
he showed to Warner Bros. back when The Sandman movie was in the very early stages of development.
As it happens I'm currently re-reading The Sandman 75 issue run, currently up to the 'A Game Of You' mini series (#32-37), and I recognise a few of the artworks, such as, Dream trying to reclaim his possessions after being imprisoned (Prelude and Nocturnes #1-8) and the Serial Killer Convention (The Doll's House #9-16).
Gaiman also revealed that they were pitching for three movies, hence the broad scale of the number of illustrations. And being a fan of the comics, I would've loved to have seen a movie (or even a TV series for that matter) adapted from the comics.
A selection of the illustrations after the jump too (click to embiggen).
Click the link for more of the illustrations by Jill Thompson. They are also up for sale, if you have a few hundred dollars spare!
